Sankofa Reggae Fest 2026: Roots Reggae Returns to Ghana

On 6 March 2026, Ghana will once again stand tall as the heartbeat of reggae culture when Sankofa Reggae Fest takes over Tawala Beach Resort in Accra. More than just a concert, this festival is a cultural movement—reviving the spirit of roots reggae and reconnecting it to its African origins.

Why Sankofa Matters

The word Sankofa comes from the Akan philosophy meaning “go back and fetch it”—a reminder to reclaim what is valuable from the past to build a stronger future. In today’s music scene, where commercial sounds often dominate, Sankofa Reggae Fest insists on reggae’s deeper purpose: consciousness, heritage, resistance, and unity.

The Heart of the Festival

At the center of this revival is Black Prophet, Ghana’s celebrated reggae artist and cultural ambassador. His international career and strong ties across the global reggae community have made this gathering possible. Through his vision, artists from Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America are coming together in solidarity.

The Line-Up

Expect powerful performances from a diverse roster of reggae voices:

Artist Country
Black Prophet & The New Gold Band Ghana
Kente Ghana
Fidel Nadal Argentina
Natty Congo Crew Mexico
I Jah Bones Jamaica
Somos Uno Mexico
James Lakay Haiti/Venezuela
Vibration Kings Band Ghana

This mix of African and international acts underscores reggae’s global reach while honoring its African roots.

More Than Music

Sankofa Reggae Fest is designed as a cultural platform, not just a one-night show. It celebrates:

  • Cultural reconnection & African identity
  • Conscious living & community values
  • Artistic solidarity across continents
  • Safe, inclusive, and responsible celebration

It also opens doors for brand partnerships aligned with heritage, wellness, authenticity, and sustainability.

Looking Ahead

Organizers envision Sankofa Reggae Fest as an annual cultural landmark, strengthening Ghana’s reputation as a hub for heritage-based festivals. It’s a call to cultural partners, brands, and supporters worldwide to join in preserving and promoting reggae’s roots.
